The hospital has altogether 150 beds of three grades, attended by 80 employees, among whom there are 60 medical professionals including 10 high-level physicians, 25 medium-level physicians, and 25 preliminary-level physicians.
The hospital is famous for its effective treatment of infantile cranial nerve paralysis, low IQ and epilepsy, as well as infantile neurotic diseases such as children's hyperkinetic syndrome, cerebral injury sequela and after effects of central nerve infection. The hospital has brought effective benefits to approach 70,000 patients, including 7,000 inpatients, from all parts of China and over 20 foreign countries in the world since it was established more than 10 years ago. For example, in 2001, there are about sixty infantile in-patients from South Korea. According to the statistics in this period, 2,500 patients could go to kindergarten or enter schools after treatment in the hospital. Some of them have even succeeded in their application for universities and colleges or obtained employment in jobs.
The hospital adopts the combination of western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine, prescribing to the patients our self-made traditional Chinese medicine for oral administration, such as 85-4 pills, benecerebral, anti-cramp and paralysis pills, giving them comprehensive treatment such as acupuncture, massage, No.03 machine for smoothing channels and collateral ultraviolet ray treatment, laser blood therapy, etc. These treatments have achieved satisfactory effects with the help of functional trainings. For example, during 1996-1997, 496 patients suffering from cranial nerve paralysis received inpatient treatment for over 4 weeks, 97.8% of them responded well to the treatment, including 42.34% improvement rate (bring their illness to a less serious grade). In the first three months of 1998, the improvement rate had reached over 50%. The Study on the Medicine Rehabilitation of Infantile Cerebral Palsy has passed the appraisal conducted by experts under the organization of Beijing Bureau of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1998, and was awarded the first prize for science and technology achievement.
The curative effect on low IQ is also obvious. The effective rate for three-month treatment (one process) is 87%, including 34% improvement rate. As to the epilepsy, western medicine cannot keep it under control or side effects appear after treatment. However, by combining western and traditional Chinese medicine, we have achieved an effective rate (reducing 50% of attacks) as high as 93.59%, among 43.59% have been improved (reducing 75% of attacks), and 41.03% are under control (without attack for half a year).
As a charitable organization, the hospital is named The Rehabilitation Center of Neurotic Diseases of Beijing Handicapped Association. It undertakes the tasks to benefit the society, and therefore adopts a low-fee system.
Over the past decade since its foundation, the hospital becomes more and more influential. It has received many local and foreign visitors, including the Mayor of Oslo, Norway, professors from Oslo University, Chairman of US Handicapped Union, delegation for Fukuoka Handicapped Association and Aomori Massage Association from Japan, officials from South Korean Handicapped Union, Director of H.K.
